Many of those veterans lost their limbs in military service though. The military doesn’t have a practice of enlisting people with perceived handicaps. Prosthetics present challenges that the military would rather not dedicate resources to accommodate. A prosthetic hand can’t gage pressure it applies to equipment or other people. The surviving part of the limb within the prosthetic can be more prone to skin damage. Excessive perspiration can cause the limb to simply slide off the stump. (I know all this first hand. I have a prosthetic.). Those could be costly to the individual and possibly his unit, in the field. I get that it’s a neat visual, but in a more grounded universe, it’s just not practical. I’m not trying to talk anyone out of their vote for this character. I’m just explaining my reply. Again, if Classified would issue her with human arm/robot arm options, I would get her.

I get that. I give Cobra more leniency, as the organization is far less concerned with the welfare of their people than a conventional military. Bludd also had a mercenary history before throwing in with Cobra, meaning he was an established, seasoned commodity before hand. They didn’t have to train him from a recruit, not that they wouldn’t have. Bludd had a great deal of practice with his limb, as a merc, before ever joining Cobra.

Agreed, and maybe you know stuff about her that I don't, since I definitely haven't read any stories with her that I'm aware of, but I had assumed she lost her arm while serving, and continued on with GI Joe after receiving the prosthetic. I have no idea if that's at all accurate though, just writing my own backstory already, heh.

Right, that all definitely makes sense, especially the first point.

Right, and I get all that, and appreciate the perspective for sure. For me, the Joe unit is best of the best, specialists etc etc, and in my head she is still an asset to the team and I just see it as great representation. maybe it's me, but it makes total sense in my mind that Hawk would bring her on because she has proven herself to be as capable, or more so, than her peers. GI Joe isn't about the average or what's common, but the exceptional and the best, rarest talents.

I didn't know Major Bludd had a cybernetic arm until I got the first Classified figure. NO IDEA. Neurotic thing with his design though - I sometimes wish his cybernetic eye lined up with his cybernetic arm because I feel like it'd more naturally feel like he can use the eye as a targeting tool for his arm. I love the idea of the arm and eye being synched, but I just think posing him would be slightly cooler if it was right eye/right arm. Not that dominant eye to dominant hand is 100% consistent (as someone whose dominant eye changed later in life and threw me for a LOOP)

This line of thought is so completely unnecessary and ridiculous and I sympathize 100%.

I had two jobs that kept me moving around on my feet, before I lost a leg. My surgeon told my wife that I had “excellent muscle tone” in my legs. That said, I still had to wait a year to recover from the amputation, before I could be fitted with a prosthetic. If she lost her arm (I presume it’s an above the elbow amputation) during a military service she would likely have been medically discharged, for a lengthy recovery, and then adjustment to a new prosthetic. She would have to “re-enlist”.
My history gives me a bit of different perspective from many who haven’t faced the situation. Indeed, I didn’t think about the intricacies involved in prosthetics before it happened to me. The character is what she is. I’m just explaining my position. I’m not trying to take away anyone’s enjoyment of the character, or persuade anyone’s vote. I assume the creators didn’t think about any of that when making the character. But for me, as she is in the pics, would be a ‘no’. If they packaged her with an alternate human arm, then ‘yes’. It’s just my perspective.

I don't think you're coming across that way, and again I really appreciate your perspective on it. I can still rationalize it to myself, but your story definitely helps inform that WAY more.

My only quibble with her is she's Great Value Misty Knight. I think I read maybe 3 or 4 issues with her in it, and she's not a bad character at all. I'm fine with it being a cybernetic arm. If she had a different role on Joe, that would in my book make her a bit more unique. EOD, Bomb Squad, Drone operator, whatevs I'm down. I guess it's the 4 decades of being a Marvel boy that makes me go "Hey, I know this origin story"
