G.I. Joe Classified One-A-Day Beamish-Style Figure Poll - #200 - Cobra Commander (RAH)

I only said “sportsball” because I literally have no idea what kind of sports shirt Bazooka is wearing. Like I assumed football, but at this point I’m just taking y’all’s word for it.
That said: some cosplay and ‘bounding’ would be cool for the Joes. And some subculture representation.
Why should the Dreadnoks have all the fun in that regard.

I used to think it was hilarious but I've just heard it used too often with a sort of snobby disdain that I come to associate it with the same tone as people who make fun of adults who enjoy video games or comics. I stopped using it because I heard one too many people use it not to be funny but to show they were superior to other people and I'm like, well, shit, if I want people to be marginally respectful of the stuff I like, I guess I should be marginally respectful of the shit THEY like if it's not hurting anyone. (I'll still ask people who think comics are for children to explain the difference between beefy men in tight pants fighting over a ball versus beefy men in tights fighting over, like, kryptonite though. Everyone's a nerd for SOMETHING.)

(I used to be a huge baseball fan but following an American sport with 162 games a year per team from a foreign time zone got to be impossible and I just never got back into it again when I came home, so I've been off the sportsball for like, 15 years now.)

I don't use the 'sporting ball' joke very often, but when I do I say it with the "well, hello fellow teenagers" voice. I also am casually disrespectful of my own hobbies, such as collecting dollies or 'little guys.' So I'm equal opportunity that way.

Also, as you said, it's objectively funny to call American football 'soccer.' Especially since so many football fans that I knew growing up got really mad at the idea of Europeans calling soccer 'football.'

To be fair, I used to hear it the way everyone else is describing it, but the past few years I hear it used by guys in the 35-50 age range in a tone of voice that makes me wonder if perhaps the world lost something when we made it uncool to bully people. Like the guys who have said it in a snobby way absolutely would benefit from an atomic wedgy.

(I genuinely hope you get that I'm laughing while posting this. Otherwise, I get it comes across as utterly hostile.)

(BTW, not calling anyone out in this thread for using it, but I guess given the reaction from everyone, probably worth sharing that it IS starting to trend as a hostile bit of slang among those youngin' folks, so consider it more of a head's up and not me thinking you're actually doing that. It's definitely becoming a yuppie way of mocking people who are emotionally invested in sports, and honestly, I find it hilarious that the folks who ARE doing it are probably former victims of being mocked for like, being geology nerds or Trekkers. Actually specifically the guys I hear doing it are like, dude, you have a ST:TNG uniform in your closet, where do you get off making fun of the guy with the Mets jersey...)
