Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

4H read the writing on the wall and unlocked all their stretch goals this morning to maximize backer potential. Doesn't look like it's really moved the needle just yet, but they only announced it a few hours ago so we'll see.

The only figure that's really appealed to me is the updated Boarrior, but I have my v1 Boarrior hanging out with my goblin gang and if I update him to v2, he'll be as tall as the 1.0 figures and will stick out in the crowd so I think I'll just save my money.

It’s smart doing that now rather than waiting for things to ‘unlock’ at the 11th hour. They still might get to that 1.5 million but at least they won’t have a lot of people whining they didn’t add the goblin because he didn’t unlock until 5 minutes left in the campaign and they didn’t update their pledge in time.

so it occurred to me; the Horsemen’s last crowd fundinf campaign wasn’t the video game… it was the dragon.

That raised over $3.7m

So I’m completely lost on what the plot is with this one… $1.5m isn’t even halfway to their most successful crowdfunding project, it’s their most successful Kickstarter but that’s an asterisk not an achievement.

We could go on forever about how this is a toy not game Kickstarter, so you know it’s not even like it’s successfully launched the game…

Anyway, glad they dropped the pretense and unlocked everything early! Upped my final pledge to $440, all toys no game stuff, gotta get that gobbo!

Ahhh they got me for the goblin! So it's all the clerics/paladins for me from this kickstarter. They would have got me to drop for the Dwarf too if he didn't have monkey arms, I just cant unsee that.

I was gonna mention it here but forgot — Nerdzoic sent out an email last week. 4H is upping production on some upcoming waves in response to how hard it is to find some Rising Sons figures.

Not Ashes of Agbendor, though, those are gonna be tough if you don't already have a preorder.

Says Nerdzoic:

... the Mythic Legions Rising Sons wave arrived and, like many retailers, we were either sold out before release or within hours of arrival.

Unfortunately, the next two waves — Ashes of Agbendor and Legacies of Mythos — are already deep into production, which means retailer order quantities are locked in. Once those waves release, supply will likely be extremely limited (at least it certainly will be for us).

The good news: Four Horsemen recently allowed retailers to increase order quantities on later upcoming waves, and we took advantage of that opportunity. Because of that, we’ve reopened preorders on several figures that had previously been pre-sold out.

Many retailers are already showing these waves as sold out, so availability across the market may tighten quickly. If you’re planning to collect these waves, now is the time to lock in your preorder.

I only got a couple of Ashes figures and kinda thought I might pick up like, the Shadow Centaur, the goblins, or one or two others later, but fortunately I really just got the ones I really wanted. IIRC I think I just got the lil librarian wizard and the cat rogue (I did grab a second copy of him because I like the shadow-elf with the white beard alternate head they included). I think I might've gotten the upgrade to Azza because I was hoping the articulation would be a little better. (I got the OG Azza second hand and she was, a bit dinged up.)

Even if it's just the toys, that dragon looks amazing and amazing dragons are few and far between at this scale and detail. Being an expensive premium piece probably brought in a lot of other people who just want a dragon.

And just coming from my other nerd social circles, way more people want a dragon than they want a knight or a dwarf or an elf.

On a strictly toy kickstarting basis, these are just reprinted and recolored Legions with some customisation potential thanks to the add on parts. Not even new or exciting things like past wave with new knights or the upcoming Not Icewind Dale series. It's like... A variant on the Quarter Pounder for people that already choose McDonald's.

So yeah. Even WITH the game, why weren't these just a new initiative to push the store?

I really feel like they needed money to cover costs elsewhere. It's been such a desperate and greedy improvisation. I never felt that confidence you want from a good salesman or marketing push. The product didn't speak for itself and they threw 20 other products on top to obfuscate it all

The dragon definitely felt like a once in a lifetime thing. These are more of what everyone expects from the line. I really do think someone said "you guys should make your own D&D" and they just went with it, assuming their fan base would carry them.

In the end, I guess we'll get some figures that are exactly what we've come to expect from them, maybe a book for a game no one will play, and that'll be the day. They broke their million dollar goal so I think they'll call this a success.

"We made a million dollars on our TTRPG Kickstarter!" without ever mentioning that the entire Kickstarter was propped up by being a FULL wave+ of action figures that would have done a million dollars without the book. It's just such a gross, cynical scam.

Also at the end of the day, I'm only even invested in this Saga because that's the conversation we're having right here.

If I just bit my tongue, I think it's dumb I can't just buy figures at the store like normal but, this is the avenue. There's one or two I want to round out my D&D OCs, and I'll get them.

Yeah, when all is said and done its' a weird, kinda dumb concept but I just pledged for a couple of the very baseline figures because I like the face sculpt options (love a grey-bearded cleric, wanted a druid and a rogue for the shelf). I thought really seriously about the evil paladin but I just can't get past the way his gloves and boots match his skin tone. Might've added the orc if they hadn't made the "normal" head a $10 add-on just give him a neutral expression.

OK... literally the only thing I want is the feline head and tail add-on. Do I need one of you to add that on for me or will they really be available later at retail for slightly more?
