NECA - General Thread

NECA was smart when they did their Simpsons celebrity figures that they scaled with Playmates’ WoS line. Now they’re in a tough spot of do they scale these with their Sesame Street figures or try to keep the Palisades size? They’re close but Sesame Street is certainly bigger than the Palisades Muppets. I would guess they keep these in scale with their new Sesame Street figures.

I'd be shocked if they didn't scale them with Sesame Street. It would make more sense to have them match the current series they are producing than one from 20 years ago.

Especially with crossover characters like Kermit. Who you'll definitely want to scale with the Sesame Street figures.
Most definitely! As a kid, I remember the Sesame Street characters making appearances on the Muppet Show, and making cameos in the various Muppet films, and as you noted there is the history of Kermit being a regular on Sesame Street. To me, the lines need to be as compatible as possible, as I think MANY are going to want to display them together.

I hope that if they make an Ultimate Kermit he comes with the necessary accessories to make him a reporter. Also I hope they get to Grover soon and give him the necessaries to make him Super Grover.

I have a few Diamond Muppets that I'll be fudging into my overall Muppet display with the new NECA Sesame Street and Muppet Show stuff, as I don't feel the need to double dip on the few I have. Especially Statler and Waldorf, who will be in their balcony above the display anyways, so scale won't be that big of a deal. I also have Bunsen and Beaker, Animal with his drums and the Swedish Chef, all of whom should be fine in a display with larger characters since they will be surrounded by their accessories/diorama pieces which will give them a kind of natural separation from the other figures.

Wasn't really into Muppets and don't recall how it felt as a kid: was Kermit popping over on Sesame like Spidey popping up in Civil War? Was it cool for the parents?

He's cool as the reporter. I just don't have a perspective on if people were popping because that was the host of the Muppet Show.

Kermit was actually showing up on Sesame Street for years before the Muppet Show premiered (in fact, some early reviews referred to MS as a "spin-off" of SS, even though it isn't exactly accurate). He wasn't just in the reporter bits either...he showed up in other skits as well. He continued to make appearances for years on there, so it was really an expected thing for him to be on Sesame Street, and not as big of a deal.

Now, Bert & Ernie showing up on the Muppet Show, or Big Bird having a cameo in The Muppet Movie, THOSE were a big deal...at least to me as a kid. While I had outgrown Sesame Street at the time, I still had a fond affection for the characters and really loved seeing them pop up to interact with the Muppet Show cast.

As for the parents, I know my mom & dad both got a kick out of a lot of the Sesame Street stuff (the "Letter B" bit, sung by a group of Muppet beetles, sticks out in my mind. I didn't get the joke at the time, but my parents loved it). The Muppet Show was one we all gathered as a family to watch, and I remember my folks taking us to see the movies as well. Whenever a Sesame Street Muppet showed up to interact with Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo, etc., I remember them getting into it.
