Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

A thing occurred to me today which I thought worth posting on.

Now you can fight me on this but without exception EVERY SINGLE MCU Steve Rogers has missed the mark. All have been too short by a fraction or considerably lacking in the overall volume of his physique, one or two he has sometimes had iffy costume accuracy due to early promo art adaptation, some badly integrated articulation, particularly in the torso and zero butterfly shoulders, even the occasional weird cut mid-bicep or reuse of older pieces on the later figures that just distorted his overall silhouette.

The number of times we’ve had shields packed in as straight reuse but zero innovation on how they fit his arm or back, the helmet sculpts that make his noggin impossibly small to be fitting inside them, and even when the overall silhouette is good he might be standing about 5% under-scaled compared to other MCU figures… the one thing I’ll say was mostly a solid win was how good a lot of the likenesses came out apart from one noticeable nightmarish exception.

For my favourite character he has been a repeatedly tragically underwhelming consumer experience as a figure collector, and I say all this because…. Steve being in Doomsday means there’s a chance, just a chance, that we might finally get a stellar figure of him.

I’m talking heroic proportionate silhouette, proper scaling with new pieces where they’re critically needed, ball and cup shoulders like the recent DD/Punisher/Wolverine figures, perhaps even a magnetic shield if they went the route of making him a deluxe release.

It’s long past due. A lot of MCU fare has been the same old story of figures with unpainted backs who were sculpted to only ever really look good standing in pretty neutral poses, but they do sometimes score some hits, especially when they don’t reuse old parts or sneak in comic-style pieces under overlays to save money, so yes it’s definitely time and in the spirit of being optimistic I’m going to hope it happens.

I'd say this is pretty accurate. I was going through my MCU stuff last night, figuring out which will stay and which will go. I want to keep Captain Carter for sure because I love the character. I stood her next to worthy Cap and no.....no, there will be no dance for those two figures. She towers over him. I could keep the shorter two pack Carter in her place, but her legs are warped, her feet are small, her skirt provides no movement for the legs.....she might be too frustrating to keep. But that does lead me to one figure I think you may have overlooked:

The WWII Cap from that Carter two pack is probably Hasbro's best MCU Cap. I understand he gets overlooked because he's not in a Cap uniform.......or ISN'T he? There is a bit of the USO outfit peeking out the top, he's got the blue helmet with the A, and he's got a shield, the likeness is on-point, and---unlike every other MCU Cap---he's go the height! I've already settled on IM and Thor, I think I'm going to make the bold choice to make this Cap the lone MCU Cap in my collection.

Who knows what a Doomsday Cap figure might look like. I honestly didn't know it was confirmed that Cap was coming back......I just assume EVERY character will be in the thing. One would hope that however he looks in the movie that Hasbro will do an ALL NEW figure for him but you never know.

What If? Captain Carter is supposed to tower. She's got super serum in her, which made her grow.
I don't know the height of pre or post super soldier serum Steve or Peggy. Is Captain Carter supposed to be bigger than Captain America? I get that Carter grew as a result of the serum but my guess is that Cap should still be taller.

Is no Hugh head a cop-out? Absolutely. But it's not like we don't all have multiple Hugh heads in our accessory bins. It's not like it doesn't exist from this company. Heck, Logan might even look more pathetic in his civilian outfit with a masked head on when that head gets swapped. :)
I don't because I'm not an MCU collector. I was thinking about getting the entire wave, but that Wolvie not having an unmasked head really kills my desire to have it, even though I'd likely end up displaying him with the mask on.

I've always looked at it like the serum had to increase super-sickly Steve as best it could, and healthy Peggy as best it could as well. So I have no problem with Peggy being as big or as strong as Steve, post serum.

That’s how I see it too, Peggy was already healthy and fit, the serum amped that up.

Also Chris Evans is 6’ even IRL. If anything, they’ve made Hemsworth figures too tall if they’re being compared. I was pretty satisfied with the Endgame mold for Evans Cap. That’s what’s currently on the shelves as an evergreen.

Correct. They made Thor and the first Valkyrie from Ragnarok, too tall with the idea to do Asgardians as bigger like the comics. With endgame they çhanged that so Thor is shorter. I don't know if they maintained what with L&T, but the Dark World Thor they did for the Saga wave or whatever was using old parts so he was back to too tall.

To my knowledge, the only "short" Thor is Endgame, maybe Dude Thor BAF. Every other Thor is the same or similar oversized.

That doesn't have anything to do with figures of Evans Cap having odd proportions, but his height, or the height of his figures, isn't really inaccurate.

I’m sure I have a spare somewhere I can send you, message me nearer the time buddy

Picked up the A-List Cap figure for $7 recently and forgot how short he is. I was gonna mix-and-match with a different Cap and the legs on the Crossbones ones are longer but don't look as nice.

A complete Cap re-do is definitely deserved. Re-doing all six main Avengers and Loki, but with Cap from Endgame and IM battle-damaged since they already re-released that look, is such easy money I'm really curious why Hasbro just won't touch it.

Picked up the 4-pack Bruce, Maria Hill and the Walmart Avengers Loki for $10 each last week because that's a good price on those and who knows how long Hasbro will make me wait. Better to have the pieces to mess with!

I must confess, it's extremely gratifying to get this bad boy in hand after the local parcel bods lost the original package. The fact I found a replacement 20 bucks cheaper is just the icing on the cake.

Loving the LED function. The only thing I'd change is Peni being a statue - feels her and Ham just don't get the respect they deserve.
