Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

Was making dinner, got the notification about the figures going up. Had dinner, then went to check and daaaaaamn, Blade and Laura, and also the brown/tan Wolvie were sold out on Pulse already. Fortunately, was able to secure a Blade and Laura elsewhere so I'm hunky dory.

Totally forgot about the wave dropping- packing for a holiday trip out to see the family- but I just hopped on Amazon and managed to get the ones I wanted. Everyone was available when I went to check, so if anyone missed them before, maybe give them another try.

Is no Hugh head a cop-out? Absolutely. But it's not like we don't all have multiple Hugh heads in our accessory bins. It's not like it doesn't exist from this company. Heck, Logan might even look more pathetic in his civilian outfit with a masked head on when that head gets swapped. :)
I don't have any,. but the civilian looks like the only one I have access to for retail. Might do.

I ordered Laura, Cassandra, Cowboy Deadpool, and Blade. This was my first time paying 27.99 for a single Legend, I didn't realize the price has gone up since my last MCU Legend purchase.

I cant wait to see who's next! Aside from Elektra, I hope we get a Hunter B15 because that would fill a hole in the Loki cast as well.

Grabbing the deluxe and flipping the last one because I want that shade of red.

This might be the first ensemble cast I've cared to fill out since the original X-Men movie line.

My parents gave me a $100 Toys R Us gift card for my birthday that year and I bought the entire wave in one swoop. Still one of the best days of my life.

Putting my expiration date on here but that was right after I graduated high school.

I went to Toys R Us one morning and they had everything. Had to spend some of that graduation money. What better way to clutter up the dorm.

It was the second time in my life I was able to get the entire assortment including the two packs in one shot. Before that it was getting all of the McFarlane Metal Gear figures just walking into EB.

They were mind-blowing at the time. Not quite as good as the Blade movie figures which basically created Marvel Legends (sorry, Spidey), but at the time amazing. Plus to get that many women characters. Toy Biz was a trailblazer.

There was a huge canvas banner with the X-Men logo hanging on the side of the Toys R Us. And then they also had a four-way with all the figures that had cardboard silhouettes of all the main X-Men.

For my going away gift later that summer, I discovered that my friends Assassin's Creed climbed to the top of the Toys R Us using a truck trailer in the loading dock to get on the roof and cut that banner down for me. Sadly it long ago disintegrated.

And another friend stole the Jean Grey silhouette cardboard for me. I was there for that and the manager knew he did something, but couldn't figure out what because he ditched it under a car while he confronted the manager for harassing him. That was because it was Famke, and in honor of our GoldenEye years.

I never had friends again like I had that summer.

*stand by me"

That X-line-up was sooooo good. They didn't skip anyone - and didn't it do really well? Hmmmm, if only there was a lesson that could be learned. And now, here we go again with Hasbro skipping female-led projects entirely and Sue not getting a 12" - guess she's not considered a Titan.

This Deluxe Deadpool with Wolverine pieces possibly *being* the Wolverinepool leak makes me quite happy if that is indeed the case.

Say some poor unfortunate soul had been a completist on the MCU figures from the start, and as a result ended up with say a half dozen Caps, Thors, IMs, multiple Thanoi, even multiple Heras and so on resulting in 100's of figures. Say that same poor unfortunate soul was thinking they wanted to cull this to one version of each character - which schema would you recommend -

1 - First appearance?
2 - Last appearance?
3 - Focus on Avengers IW and Endgame looks?
4 - Include the villains, even though they skipped many villains?
5 - Include the NetflixVerse?
6 - Include all the Disney+?

7 - Include the animated What If...?Verse?
8 - Include the FoxVerse (X-Men, Deadpool)?
9 - What about the SonyVerse?

I am leaning towards some combo of 2 and 3 plus 5 and 6, not keeping 4 (or limiting to recurring villains) or 7, and not sure about how to handle 8 and 9 - do I keep some of the legacy figures going back 20 years for X-Men and Spidey, or see what pops up in Doomsday and Secret Wars for X-Men (like we got from D&W coming out soon) and No Way Home for Spidey. Maybe see which villains return in Doomsday and Secret Wars as well?

My own weird way of doing it was... getting down to one of each (except Spider-Man, and I do have a second Iron Man but I feel on the verge of fixing that), and basically just my favorite version of those characters even if they aren't from the same movie/era as the others that would make sense to be with them. Endgame Iron Man stands with BW Black Widow (with the white suit head), Dark World Thor, Disney Hawkeye, etc etc. And what I kept is entirely based on the characters in the original Secret Wars, prominent characters in the Dark Reign stories, and my favorite Spider-Man villains. So favorite movie versions of my favorite comic characters.

I've got almost all of them and some are arranged by trilogy, some are arranged by movie, D+ has a shelf.

Like Guardians has Vol3 in the middle, 2 on one side and 1 on the other. Spidey same thing, IM same thing.

And I don't feel like whittling it down at all. I want the holes filled!

A thing occurred to me today which I thought worth posting on.

Now you can fight me on this but without exception EVERY SINGLE MCU Steve Rogers has missed the mark. All have been too short by a fraction or considerably lacking in the overall volume of his physique, one or two he has sometimes had iffy costume accuracy due to early promo art adaptation, some badly integrated articulation, particularly in the torso and zero butterfly shoulders, even the occasional weird cut mid-bicep or reuse of older pieces on the later figures that just distorted his overall silhouette.

The number of times we’ve had shields packed in as straight reuse but zero innovation on how they fit his arm or back, the helmet sculpts that make his noggin impossibly small to be fitting inside them, and even when the overall silhouette is good he might be standing about 5% under-scaled compared to other MCU figures… the one thing I’ll say was mostly a solid win was how good a lot of the likenesses came out apart from one noticeable nightmarish exception.

For my favourite character he has been a repeatedly tragically underwhelming consumer experience as a figure collector, and I say all this because…. Steve being in Doomsday means there’s a chance, just a chance, that we might finally get a stellar figure of him.

I’m talking heroic proportionate silhouette, proper scaling with new pieces where they’re critically needed, ball and cup shoulders like the recent DD/Punisher/Wolverine figures, perhaps even a magnetic shield if they went the route of making him a deluxe release.

It’s long past due. A lot of MCU fare has been the same old story of figures with unpainted backs who were sculpted to only ever really look good standing in pretty neutral poses, but they do sometimes score some hits, especially when they don’t reuse old parts or sneak in comic-style pieces under overlays to save money, so yes it’s definitely time and in the spirit of being optimistic I’m going to hope it happens.
