Today I boiled some water and let Deadpool (and Extremis 2.0) get a little hot water bath. I articulated their ab crunches that felt a little springy and hindered to the max the sculpt would allow and then let them cool while they were in that position. That seemed to fix the issue with the joint. If you do go to try this with Extremis 2.0, make sure you're careful of the paint on the Unibeam. It can scrape off VERY easily. I'd recommend clear coating it first.

Deadpool becomes a MUCH better figure once you get these joints working properly.

What's your theory? Paint in the joint? Excess plastic?
 
Based on Extremis from when i took him apart, the bar that connects the lower and upper part of has four detents in it. You can feel it click the one time but it doesn’t click after that and he just springs back. I’m not super familiar with the inner workings on bodies with reverse abcrunch and torso rocker so it was new to me, but with Extremis Iron Man the bar slides into a soft rubber piece that also houses the torso rocker joint. Getting the heat/hot water to that part and rocking the joint forward seems to let that soft rubber piece form better to the bar somehow. I’m not 100% why it works but it works.

It sounds like too few detents. Four? It's like when you don't have enough clearance on a hexagonal nut for an Allan wrench to get more than a quarter rotation. While I appreciate the new ab crunch, it's obviously not getting its full range without modification. I ain't cracking open a figure like what you described to fix something that should have been designed better. I appreciate you doing the footwork, your trial and error will benefit plenty. They really should have done the barbell/socket joints instead of that old ab hinge.
 
I'm not sure about Hasbro itself, but consumer sentiment is definitely changing on the ab crunch. Seems like everyone is sick of it now.

I don't mind it, but if they're going to do something new, like with Extremis, then do something that's most up to date.
 
Anyone who only wants Doop, I'd go halfsies with you. I need an extra of this DP for a custom, because of course, that's where I found the best parts lol. :rolleyes:

Just to be clear for everyone's sake: you can fix it without splitting the figure. I had just previously taken apart the figure to know how the inner workings work and that the there's only 4 detents on the bar. I don't know that DP is the same but i'm assuming so.

I don't hate the Diaphragm and Reverse Ab Crunch set up necessarily, but there's just a much better way forward, especially when you look at some of these Iron Man designs. Feels like Hasbro doesn't always consider the design of the armor when they're cutting in the articulation. (Yes, I'm talking about you, incorrectly labeled "Model 20" Iron Man with your bullshit waist cut when the design clear as day lends it self to ball joint in the waist).

I'll tell you I absolutely despise Ab Crunch and Waist Swivel now though. Shit is archaic.
 
Yet another Maximum series figure I'm glad I passed on if you have to make modifications after paying the "premium" price.
 
Mine just arrived today. The sculpt looks excellent. I do wish he came with more facial expressions or heads, but I have a bag of Deadpool parts I can use for that too.
 
Received Deadpool (and Doop) yesterday, same day I received the Art of Mike Allred book, coincidentally. I like the figure a lot, the new sculpt is a beaut, but that lower ab hinge really should get more range. Same issues as 2pk Extremis. He's got good pairs of hands, a great array of heavy rifles, a spot to store all of his smaller arms, and a nice burrito accessory. I kind of hate the extra grinning head, probably because it isn't painted well - the teeth blend into the skin too much, not enough contrast between them. I love the Doop figure, glad he has ball hinge shoulders and a stand to float on. He's slightly smaller than the TB version, and maybe not quite as good a likeness as the TB version? Maybe I need to research images and compare side to side. I would like to see how this guy looks with the plethora of Deadpool accessories I've gotten from all of his previous figures. I'm mildly disappointed he didn't come with more like that, maybe some sais an Uzi or another sub machine gun. I'm most disappointed he doesn't have better heads. Or even just more than one extra head. Again, I have plenty that are just sitting in a zip bag. But this Max effort still leaves a bit to be desired.
