MAFEX Marvel Figures

I think you guys should probably be honest with yourselves and understand that Trump is not going to be sending out any checks. He doesn’t give money out to anybody. Even if that comes via the federal reserve.

I hope you didn't take the check comment seriously. Although he and his supporters are indirectly responsible for me being out $10.50...and my damn Rogue is still in-transit, arriving late. JFC. The USPS had a red banner on their site about possible delays due to weather like blizzards or some other nonsense.

But he is handing out admin positions to be determined. That could be worth a few imports.

I haven't been a fan of most of the recent X-Men female faces such as Jean, Psylocke, and now Rogue because I thought they looked too anime-inspired, and while that may be true I finally realized I'm wrong and that they were mostly inspired by the way Jim Lee drew female faces. He himself was probably inspired by anime, but that doesn't really matter--Medicom tried to emulate his style and they did a pretty commendable job.

They didn't nail his style--and I'm not sure that's even possible on an action figure with the stylistic way he drew lines and shading--but they did get pretty close to it.

The whole line is based on his art. Between that and the focus on Hush, I always figured someone was a big fan.

I dont know that he's ever cited anime or manga as an influence, but you can find similar facial structure and suggestive lines in Neal Adams, George Perez, and John Byrne who he's cited as influences. I remember one interview where he said his overall posing and storytelling was driven by Frazetta and his gestural power posing.

We just need to remind whoever the huge Jim fan is at Medicom that before X-Men and Hush, he had a run on Alpha Flight. I want my premium Vindicator, Puck and Box 2.0, dammit.

Honestly the only Mafex figures that have really stood out and have impressed me are Daredevil, Silver Age Captain America, Silver Age Iron Man, Scarlet Spider 2.0, Nightwing and Gambit

Even as a big supporter, I find their women to be the weakest offerings solely on articulation. I was never impressed with Betsy. So many of the cool poses fall apart from other angles with the gapping and tricks you need to get there. It was really only because it Hasbro had an even worse execution. From there Storm is whatever and finicky. Jean feels less poseable than a legend. Rogue has the belt glued down which hampers the torso.

But that's strictly posing. On a sculpt and paint level they are still top of my rankings. They just have a nice cohesive art style that goes together.
