Mattel DC Figures

Was it? I didn't realize that. That makes a ton of sense, I think that would've helped the response to the wave a lot.

...so we were supposed to have a Mera figure after all?

I believe so. That was the rumor, and although I’ve never seen a prototype, there was a pic of a DC Universe Classics Mera shipping box floating around the internet at one point. I can’t speak to its authenticity, but I do remember seeing it, and it looked legit. Maybe Atomic Knight or SD Comics can either confirm or deny.

If they had actually done the tooling though, I can’t imagine that we wouldn’t have seem her in the Signature Series subscription line.

Do you remember seeing the pic of the shipping box? It does seem kind of odd that every other deputy lantern EXCEPT Mera was included in that wave. I think she might have been subbed out for either the Black Lantern or White Lantern Hal Jordan due to cost considerations.

I never saw the shipping box picture either. I do remember talk about a GA Hawkgirl and apparently there were pictures. But I never saw those either. Supposed to have been in a 2-pack with GA Hawkman. Which did come out in wave 19.

Having an ongoing Batman subline means you can get:

-Dick Grayson as Batman
-Power Girl
-Jonah Hex
-Brainiac 5
-Gentleman Ghost
-Composite Superman

And also get

-No Man’s Land Batman
-Rainbow Batman
-Batwoman with Bat-Mite
-The Monk
-Killer Croc (first appearance)
-Hugo Strange
If those mofo's don't give me El Gaucho, I swear.

Hmm, so maybe them knocking the waves down to 6 figures plus a variant was the reason? If the wave had been originally plotted out with 7 figures and 2 chases in mind, both Hals were probably always there, and RL Mera plus the regular would have been too.

They really should've cut WW for her, in that case. Even if they had just done RL Mera and gotten enough reuse out of her to make the regular in Club IE or something.

So I asked Google and got this response about a Red Lantern Mera figure from Mattel.

Yes, a Red Lantern Mera figure was originally planned by Mattel for their popular DC Universe Classics (DCUC) line, specifically to be part of the "Wave 17" Green Lantern-themed collection.
Here are the details regarding that decision:
  • Why it was cancelled: Mattel planned to include Red Lantern Mera in the wave, but she was scrapped due to the high cost of tooling a new figure, according to Mattel's "Toy Guru" at the time.
  • The Replacement: To complete the "Collect and Connect" Anti-Monitor wave without the expensive new sculpt for Mera, Mattel replaced her with a repainted Hal Jordan figure (White/Black Lantern variant).
  • The Actual Figure: While Mattel never released a Red Lantern Mera, DC Direct (now DC Collectibles) did release a popular, highly detailed 7-inch Red Lantern Mera figure in 2011 as part of their Blackest Night Series 7 line.

While there were hopes to release her down the road, the Mattel version never materialized.

Forget Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman. Mattel needs to make figures that haven't been made before.

The original New Guardians from Millennium, the original Outsiders from First Issue Special, the Green Team, the Wanders, the Heroes of Lallor, the Heroes of Angor, the Masters of Disaster, the Sea Devils, Cave Carson & his Crew, the Time Masters and the rest of the Forgotten Heroes and Forgotten Villains.

Some vehicles like the Haunted Tank, Space Cabbie and his Cab, Cave Carson's Mighty Mole, a Time Bubble.

Playsets like the Tower of Fate, Dinosaur Island, Skataris, the Flash Museum, the Arrow Cave.

I’d be broke and love every single second of it.
