Super 7 Ultimates Thread

Right but also: where’d that strategy get Funko?
Funko POPs are very reasonably priced for your 'I just want to grab a goofy little piece of nerd garbage' crowd, AND subjectively cute and silly and 'fun,' AND very easy to display in or out of package.
ReAction stuff is none of those things.

Once again, S7 chases a strategy without understanding what makes the strategy actually WORK. It's actually kind of gross just watching them rolling along like an amorphous blob of Capitalist ooze, dragging up any and every license that someone allows to get too close to them. No plan. No intent. Just 'MAKE PRODUCT, GROW FATTER.' I hate Super7 so much.

I will say for “Law & Order” it’s NBCUniversal like Shrek and Parks and Rec (which everyone keeps mentioning and seems to have done well for them) so it’s possible it was just lumped into the license bundle they got and figured someone might want a ReAction of Ice-T or Jerry Orbach to put in their cantina or maybe just laugh at the absurdity a law and order action figure exists (I remember back in the old Something Awful days someone made a law and order coloring book as a joke, I could see these having that same “HA! I can you believe they made a Richard Belzer action figure?!?! What kid would want that??” appeal)

If it was basically a “free with purchase” when getting Shrek, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so make three figures and see how many sell for $25… but if it was a license they paid extra money for and sought out chasing that ‘we can be a Funko too!’ high for the lolz… what are we doing here?!

I'm a huge Law & Order fan and junkie. Amazon has a streaming channel for the show, which I put on practically every day. That said, I don't want Law & Order figures. But I suppose there will be some kitsch absurdity to having Jerry Orbach and Sam Waterston figures. Action figures investigating an action figure murder scene? Frankly, I don't think the concept of these is any less silly than the musician figures they make. Or as others have said, Parks and Rec figures. Certainly, they'd be far more acceptable at far less than $20 prices, but almost all Reactions get marked down at some point.

Who knows? Maybe I crack during a sale. And take some pics of Sam Waterston grilling Godzilla, while he's on the stand on trial for murder.

That's the thing that has never squared with me on ReAction - they've never been priced for impulse buys. I don't know how many times I've chuckled at one, picked it up, and then guffawed at the sticker. And that's going back to when they were 15 bucks. I think now they're around $25 which is just nuts. And then they got caught using A.I. art for some of the cards which kills the desire to keep them carded.

I was fine with them at $15, I have the Street Fighters and El Santos carded because the bespoke art is fantastic, I’ll hear arguments the figures themselves are bad and not worth $15 but as an art piece with the card back and the figure on it as like the platonic ideal of a “vintage” figure, I loved it!

But as the price keeps ticking up and the art gets shittier (and yeah, often times just AI or stock images because they’re not paying someone to paint Ben Wyatt when a grainy photo of Adam Scott was included in the license) it’s near impossible to justify buying these anymore.

I feel like their ReAction figures are like Pop Figures, where the whole market is less from toy collectors and more from fans of the property. I mean, nobody here wants Parks & Rec figures, but I bet there's some fans of the show who got 'em.
I agree with you. reaction figures is not my cup of tea.

Just got my Silverhawks Melodia and Hardware, and I dig 'em. They're two of Mon*Star's most memorable thugs for me, and they're exactly as I remember them. Getting them both in one wave was unexpected.

Now I'm just waiting on a Yes-Man and maybe a Poker Face, and my Silverhawks collection is as done as my Thundercats. Well, I'd be willing to look at a Skyrunner if they made one...

To be honest, I think Quicksilver himself is the worst of the bunch. He just seems poorly scaled to the rest and it seems like a big oversight that Tallyhawk can't clip to his wrist in some way. If they re-did Quicksilver, I'd be open to that too.

I feel the same about Quicksilver, @Fletch. Looking at him with the rest of the group, he sticks out like a sore thumb. That’s disappointing because the rest are pretty good. I’d get a redo the same way they did deluxe Lion-O.

I'm still rocking my Mattel Lion-O. I can't justify double-dipping at S7 prices. I really hope we get Yes Man, Poker Face, and Moon Stryker before they abandon the Hawks line. Then I kind of hope another company gets the license to do Thundercats and Silverhawks based on the Dynamite comics. Some real fun new additions.

So... Red Eye hit my pile of loot last week and then I was reading back through this thread and am now retroactively disappointed that they cut Wizz-Ra from the initially planned wave.

I was really happy when he was announced, but then I had forgotten that by the time the figures went up for pre-order and wasn't appropriately angry they dropped him.

I don't even know who Wizz-Ra is. But searching back for that announcement, that is a pretty cool looking character. I will be angry on your behalf.
