U.S. Politics

So impeachment is their only route? Otherwise it's make recommendations to the DOJ - which all need to go to jail.
Not quite. Look at Benghazi. If Democrats controlled the House, they could make every day a political sideshow. Investigations, reports, etc. It's not like they don't have the material. They could fill 20 years exploring the administration's crimes against humanity, deportations, and corrupt government contracts.

Obama and Clinton weren't at fault for Benghazi, but dragging their names through the mud every day was enough to make a connection in the back of the public's mind. That's been the Republican playbook for decades. We saw it with the Bill Clinton sex scandal, the Clinton Foundation, Hunter Biden, etc. When combined with Fox News and other right-wing propaganda outlets, it's amazingly effective.

You won't believe the number of conversations I've had with family members, where, whenever politics come up, they mention the imaginary Republican scandal of the month, "BUT BENGHAZI!" and begin foaming at the mouth. They can't answer a single follow-up question about whatever rage bait is getting them off, but anger is more than enough. For the victim, it's guilt by association.

Democrats could do all of that, but it won't happen because...
If they impeach everyone and have them removed, -in theory- their replacements can choose to actually charge them with said crimes. But we all know that's never going to happen. Even if the Democrats were magicked into every position of power today, not a single fucking thing would happen to any of these criminals.
Democratic leadership is bad at politics. They're 80-year-olds who came up during the newspaper era. We're lucky they understand 24-hour news. None of them understand the internet, let alone social media or algorithms.

There are small things they could do every day to disrupt Congress, even in the minority. Things that you'd only do in case of an emergency, like if the president were a wannabe fascist dictator enabled by his allies in Congress and on the Supreme Court. Democrats don't do those things because they're petrified of breaking norms. When Dems retake power, they want Republicans to act normally. Most damning of all, they're convinced it will happen. Biden said as much before he was elected. They want their kickball buddies back.

They also don't want to work that hard. Chris Coons admitted that Democrats didn't present all of their evidence in Trump's second impeachment trial because Senators wanted to get home in time for Valentine's Day. These aren't serious people; they don't care about this country like you and I, and they don't think we're at risk of losing it.

We won't get out of this mess until an overwhelming majority of elected Democrats treat the Republican Party as an enemy of the state.

Just a ramble.

There's a whole thing with ICE and the White House and Sabrina Carpenter and now they're doubling down on her and some SNL guy.

Saw the article on Facebook and I always have that masochistic urge just to scan the top comments.

Good God. Just. In general and it could be any other topic, but just the amount of people that go to bat and simp for this administration. Or suddenly try to pivot and be like well. Trump sucks but name a president that's ever been good?

Like what the fuck man. I don't care how many war crimes Obama did or if Bush masterminded 9/11 as an inside job or if Andrew Jackson was Pro slavery. Were any of them getting into little tiffs with pop stars and just being little b****** all the time? You always have to find some inane pivot point that doesn't even prove your point and just makes you look even more idiotic?

I don't know. I wonder what it's like in other countries. I don't really have a context for it. Is Italian social media like this? Are Germans as combative or moronic? What's it like in Kenya with politics?

Yeah, the thing that pisses me off about the Carpenter thing is people who don't want to pay for food stamps for starving people are okay with someone in the White House marketing team spending part of their six-figure salary doing troll edits on a pop star. Like, square that circle. Perfectly happy to waste money being in a bitch fit over a four foot tall singer but do anything of value and they lose their minds.

I thought someone said they ended this war /sarcasm

*sighs* mtg still in denial about globalism, it happened & no one can live in a bubble anymore ignoring what happens in the world
another take on the interview shows more of her ignorance
the Syrian president was not Al-Qaeda he has his own group
yet she is on point with the mbs comment very strange how she picks & chooses

The funny thing is, yes, I agree Mr. Trump that the Netflix and Warner deal is a big problem. The only problem is that his solution is probably to instead only approve a sale to his buddies at Skydance who already own Paramount and CBS now. And you know he’s just looking for them to wet his beak. What will Netflix offer to Trump to get him onboard? Firing Jon Oliver is probably number 1, then he might need them to do something about that “woke” Superman, and obviously he’s going to need a financial contribution of some kind, maybe a gold DT medal in the style of the WB shield…

Exactly.
The whole REASON Trump publicly says 'that might be a problem' is because he wants a bribe. That's it. That's the totality of it. It's so brazen and obvious, and no one seems to be inclined to do anything about it.

It gets worse. Kushner's involved. And the Saudis.

Good news for Donald Trump: the prosecution of Donald Trump is no longer my top political issue. It's unfucking the Supreme Court. Sure, let's end 150 years of American prosperity because six dumbfuck conservatives know better.

Don't worry, the prosecution of Donald Trump remains my #2 issue.

Just one of those days where all you can do is remember that the US probably has too many deep-rooted problems, from generations of politicians refusing to fix anything, to ever be a good country again. We're -going- to watch the US collapse entirely into fascism and become the new North Korea. It's happening right in front of us.
