Spider-Man Retro 2026 Wave with Cardiac, Owl & Hypno Hustler

This is why Marvel Legends is such a difficult tightrope to walk. They relaese a comic accurate variant that has never been made before and have some fans lamenting that it wasn't Spider-Woman, a character who has been released numerous times previously - that would have had some fans complaining about revised figures instead of new ones..

Personally the Kurt Spidey was my favorite figure in the wave that wasm't Cardiac or Hypno Hustler.

You're absolutely right. A brand new costume/version should definitely be embraced. My interest in modern comics has completely waned in the past 10 years, so a brand new version of Nightcrawler from a recent mini-series isn't my cup of tea, and that's my bias. My ideal version of "modern" characters will be captured by the completed Astonishing X-Men and New Avengers standing side-by-side in the display :)

I got him because I love Nightcrawler. And I think the suit looks cool as hell. I'll probably end up putting an unmasked head on at some point. But the figure and design are just so cool. I'll buy just about any Kurt they put out. Miguel is also a really good figure. He needed that update. I think the Jessica Drew figures are about perfect as is. Maybe pinless and double elbows could help? But I always liked the Moonstone buck. It wasn't the anorexia look alot of the other females had.

I’ve always thought the similarities between Nightcrawler and Spider-Man have been neglected/needed exploration in comics. Was always surprised they had very few run ins, as far as I’ve read. So Nightcrawler moonlighting as Spider-Man is like an adolescent dream come to life. I love the concept even if I haven’t read the book and know nothing of its execution. It’s just a genius pairing.

If anyone was holding out, Target.com finally listed these. Here's one.

I also had a 15% coupon as well so I was able to grab these for $20 - glad I waited!

I get it if people can't wait to buy these characters (I've been there many many times), but I'm waiting because this wave (aside from Miguel, maybe) is the most "destined for Rosscon" asst I've seen since... the last retro Spidey wave.

This Spidey retro card wave was easily one of my favorite of the year. I bought all at full price even the silly Spider-Venom, which was the one that I wanted the least (how many black suit Spidey variations have we gotten in the last few years?!?).

I won't complain if I find more later at deep discounts, though. That seems highly likely especially from Target as they continue to stock solid cases rather than a more split distribution across the wave. One Target that I went to recently had a solid case of Spidey 2099 only and another that I went to had a solid case of only Uncanny Nightrcawler Spidey. Neither Target had any representation of any other figure in the wave. Very weird. I've had good luck playing the long game and picking up figures like Savage Land Prof X, X-Factor Jean, mini comic Ultimate Iron Man, deluxe comic Sam-Cap, MCU Electro and others from Target specifically for 70% off all in relatively recent history.

So far it's the Owl an Hypno Hustler that I've seen hanging around the most, followed by Spider-Venom. Nightcrawler sold out at one store. 2099 has gotten restocked a couple times and dwindled down. Cardiac actually seems to be the most rare of the set. My stores either didn't get him, or sold out of him.

The only problem with this approach is that if everyone took it the line would end. That is why, when there are figures I know I want, I buy them at full price because I want there to be more in the future.

I understand people playing the waiting game for figures that aren't must haves for them, but I want more "destined for Ross" characters in the line. In fact virtually all of my major wants probably fall in this category at this point, so I vote with my wallet and buy the obscure characters to encourage Hasbro to keep making them and retailers to keep stocking them.

If I like a figure and think the value is there then I pay full price, often without hesitation. If I'm not as into it then I'll wait for a discount and what often happens is once that thing does go on sale I realize I've gone without it for so long that I don't really want it anyway thus saving myself even more money.

I’m still a full on preorder guy, at Pulse and Amazon each for a set. I do pick stuff up if I find it on sale or clearance, but I rarely wait for that to happen because I’d rather have it than potentially miss out. I don’t know if there’s anything these days that became so rare that I would miss out, but there are definitely figures I’ve only got because I preordered and never saw them at retail.

The only figures I worry about missing out on are imports and Mezco offerings. My son is learning the hard way that imports can be both hard and pricey to acquire after sell-out as he just got into My Hero Academia and really wants the SHF Deku, but it's hard to come by despite getting reissued last fall. I might have to give AliExpress a try and save it for his birthday.
