It Was 60 Years Ago Today ....

That a Charlie Brown Christmas first aired on CBS. I was a mere seven years old, but I still remember that night and I remember how much I loved that special.

A Charlie Brown Christmas, a show that CBS execs were sure was going to bomb (They almost didn't air it) proved to be a ratings blockbuster that reached 15 million households. Who knew that a Christmas cartoon that featured a jazz soundtrack, a cast made up entirely of children (most of them amateurs) and had such a simple style of animation could prove to be such a huge hit? No one, that's who! But it was. It was a Peabody and Emmy awards winner and has become a holiday staple. Peanuts creator Charles “Sparky” Schulz and TV producer Lee Mendelson went on to create a whole series of Peanuts specials over the course of several years.

Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown! And happy anniversary. Thanks for the great memories.
