Black Series Commander Rex vs Ali Express KO

I may do this with the new Anakin as well, even though Robo more or less went over everything in his latest video.

Left to Right: First Black Series Rex, KO Rex, New Rex.

Out of the box I thought he was pretty great, then I got to handling him some. First, those holsters are terrible. There was no need to change what has been used for any clone with a kama. The pistols fit nicely in them, but they just look cheap. My friend Greg pointed out they ARE screen accurate to Ahsoka, which was when I noticed the pauldron is not. There are no ammo pouches on the KO or the new one. Weird.

I almost want to say the OG head and the new head are the same sculpt, but as I flip back and forth between them I'm noticing some differences. Obviously the KO head is not Rex.

KO Helmet

The helmets do seem to be the same sculpt, with the new one having some better paint apps. The Jaig eyes on the KO look better to me. They seem meaner? If that makes sense. The range finder on the new one is thinner and two colors, instead of all black like the KO.

The insides are similar again, but the new one seems to have thicker pads inside it. Both fit on either head well though.

It doesn't show well here, but the blue is slightly darker on the KO.

The belts have a few differences. The new one is all one piece (belt/holsters and kama), where the KO has a separate belt/holsters and kama. I like the design of the KO kama better.

The height seems to be about the same, with the KO being a little taller, but I think that has to do with the head. The neck is removable as well, and both seem to be the same.

The base figures are the same newer Clone sculpt. Ball/hinge elbows and knees. The chest armor is an overlay. Ball at the hip, and rocker ankles.

New head/pauldron on the KO body and KO head/pauldron on the new body.

Big difference in the pauldrons. The neck cut out on the KO is weird. I think it should have gone all the way to the armor line, but seems to have just been punched out with enough room for the neck to fit through.

Top to bottom: OG Rex, KO Rex, New Rex. The pistol sculpt is the same we've had forever. There isn't much reason to change it really.

Few thoughts. I was trying to figure out where the pauldron on the KO came from. I thought it could have been from the previous ARCs, but it wasn't. I think it's a reworked Bly pauldron. His has the ammo strap, but that's the only difference. The KO kama is still a mystery to me though. I'm not a big fan of the pauldron on the new one, and those holsters are just weird to me. They remind me of the ones on the pre-posed TCW 1:18 figures from waaaay back. I like the new figure, but ended up kit-bashing it with the KO. The head/helmet on the KO body is good enough for me for now. I need to look around and find ammo pouches for him though.

I do the 501st pilot Hawk, but have never taken him out of the package.
