So last year, I backed a Kickstarter project that didn't seem to get too much attention for the first ever (officially licensed) action figure of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.
No company name, based out of the UK, all women team, shipped from GameTee. I have been wanting an Abe figure since 1997, so I backed it immediately. Almost 30 years, and I was beyond ready for this figure.
Well, today it was delivered, and bless them, any tariff fees were absorbed by them.
First impressions:
He is small. Maybe 4 inches in height.
The paint is decent, but doesn't really match up in my mind to what Abe looks like. Certainly not nearly enough of the seafoam green to him, more purple than anything else, and the eyes have no yellow.
Through the process, they added articulation, but none of it is really practical. The ball-jointed wrists do nothing, the ankles feel pretty loose, but hold a pose for right now. The ball joint in the waist feels pointless, as it doesn't offer much range. I have tried to get him in his classic sneaking pose, but it doesn't seem to be able to be pulled off.
He is definitely light on accessories. Would have been nice if he came with a smaller enemy like a Paramite, or some extra hands, or his backpack.
Still, it is Abe, the sculpt is very obviously Abe, so there is a level of nostalgia attached, and I am glad to have him overall. However, this does bring me back to the curiosity of how well Resaurus would have pulled it off back in the day, had they released theirs. I think it might have been even better than this attempt.
Regardless, for 37 bucks, and absorbed tariff fees, I can't complain too much. Still--company name should be on that box. I have no clue who made this still.
