I started getting double vision but it went undiagnosed for too long (GET GOOD EYE DOCTORS) and I somehow, without realizing that the muscles around my left eye were weakening, "trained" my right eye to be the one to stay focused. I'm still kind of trying to get it sorted. Constant annoyance, but it could be worse because I CAN get 20/20 vision (corrected) out of either eye, just they're constantly fighting each other for focus. It's miserable.

I swear the closest we've gotten to truly acknowledging recovery is involved was seeing a droid test Luke's sensitivity to his hand in that last moment of Empire. Whenever I see Bucky commit some wild act of strength with his arm I think of the catastrophic harm that would case to whatever human bone or tissue it's anchored to.

I would be willing to bet 99 out of 100 times, a creator does not think deeply enough about when they give a character a prosthetic limb. I swear the closest we've gotten to truly acknowledging recovery is involved was seeing a droid test Luke's sensitivity to his hand in that last moment of Empire. You know, that very same issue was pointed out to the creators of “The Six Million Dollar Man”. The writers had to do a little retcon, giving him re-enforced spine, and muscle structure to allow for his body not to crumple under the feats of strength. They even cited that his regular arm had grown more muscular in having to back up his cybernetic one (even though his body didn’t show it). But at least they tied to address the critique.
 
they did do a bit with him on that, yeah. And writers sometimes point out that Wolverine has an INVASIVE METAL on every inch of bone and would be in constant pain (and weigh like 350 because of the metal). Which isn't super realistic but it adds something to the character, acknowledging that you can't just fundamentally change someone's physiognomy and not have it really throw them off for a long time.

That being said, if a company that wasn't owned by an oligarch said "we can scoop out your meat eyes and fix a lifetime of vision problems for you" I'd volunteer in a heartbeat.
 
One of the post-ROTS Vader books went into a whole thing about his limbs, breathing stuff, and the suit as a whole, making it sound constantly excruciating. I assume the author had experience, or knew someone with experience, because he really went into that. It's actually the only thing I remember about the book.

Well, having three metal appendages on one side of his body, would seriously mess with his balance, and weight distribution. But Super-Heroes is a different genre. Since the inception of the Super-Hero, super science has gone hand in hand with it. The whole Super-Hero genre is actually a sub-genre of Sci-fi. I use the phrase “Sci-fi” because Sci-fi plays loose and fast with the actual science, and that’s what super-hero stories do. Suspending disbelief is required, to enjoy the medium. I can accept that.
With the Joe genre, I like to see it more grounded in reality, with bits of ‘near future’ science elements. That’s my personal preference for the Joe’s universe. Anything too sci-fi, or too mystical, takes me out of story, because it feels wrong for the genre, at least to me. Again, I’m speaking for my personal taste. Your mileage may vary. It’s why I never got into the Cobra-la stuff. I’m not knocking those elements, but I personally feel like the Joe’s genre in the wrong context for it.
 
I actually worked for a biotech firm that was working on stuff that would let you control tech with your brain (like Elon's Neuralink but, y'know, not a scam - they used to ran and rave about how he gets all the press but they had functional technology that was letting MS patients operate their computers with eye movements). I always think of them when I see someone like Stryker or Spiral from Marvel because I know juuuuuuuuuuust enough about the cognitive load of tying brain signals to technology and I think "the chances of Stryker maiming someone, including himself, with a stray thought trying to control three arms at the same time is madness to me."

One of several topics I wish I knew less about so I could enjoy the fiction more.

Funny you bring up the Cobra-La stuff, because I have an easier time with suspension of disbelief with balls-to-the-walls IMPOSSIBLE bio-mechanical shenanigans like theirs than I do reasonable cybernetic parts. I know grafting giant bat wings on the back of a 400 pound monstrosity of a man is impossible, but I see a prosthetic leg and I worry about fatigue on the wearer or wear and tear as the prosthetic presses against the limb, etc.

OK, so Sherlock. I love Sherlock, and since it seems like i may be the only one here still reading ARAH, let me help u out!

She is introduced in ARAH #281 when Hawk, Stalker and a newer Joe called Mongoose are on a mission with the "regular" army in Trucial Abysmia. CObra is helping rebels or something, I forget. Regina Allen leads an MP investigative unit that the Joes tag along with on a mission. During the mission thier convoy gets ambushed by these CObra rebels and one throws a grenade at Hawk. Sgt Allen grabs it and throws it clear, but it detonates and destroys her arm as she throws it. In recognition for saving him, as well as all the work she did during the ambush and the investigation leading up to it, he invites her into the Joes, where she officially gets the codename Sherlock. She wroks as an investigator, sort of like an NCIS (rthe TV Show) character but obviously on Cobra stuff. I really like her actually. I dont think we've seen her since the Skybound shift, which is a shame.

Fun fact: That same issue also introduces us to the GI joe JAG officer codenamed Caseload. :)
