The Official Articulated Thoughts Baseball Thread

Pleasantly surprised how the Mariners have done against the Blue Jays so far. I was hoping for a split at best. Do not want to feel confident as work to do, but obviously M's in a great position.

Umpire had a very poor strike zone, at various points I think Kirby "walked" a batter when he threw 2 balls and 4 strikes, and in the 9th I think Robles "struck out" after 5 straight balls.

I should feel bad about the Canadians losing on their Thanksgiving I guess... 🤣 🤣 🤣

Supposedly the M's played "Not Like Us" during the introduction of the Blue Jays tonight. Absolutely savage and I am here for it.

Would be great if the Brewers would at least not get swept by the Dodgers. I still have full faith in the Mariners to put out the Jays. I just hope whoever wins can take out the Dodgers because I can't stomach the thought of that team winning another World Series. I don't even like Freddie Freeman or Ohtani anymore now that they have the stink of Dodger on them.

Geno going all Edgar Martinez circa 1995 ALDS with two HRS including the go ahead Grand Slam!

And that is high praise as Edgar's game 4 was the single greatest offensive performance in M's history, given the circumstances of win or go home...(2 HRs, 7 RBIs in that game) - Edgar's GS also came in the 8th in a tie game...
Edgar that series - 12 for 21 with 3 doubles, 2 HRs, 10 RBI, 6 runs scored - .571/.667/1.000

Nuts.

I have to give Geno some props, though. The lights were brighter tonight. He and Raleigh saved the season.

For whatever reason, I never had a baseball team as a kid. I adopted the Mariners when I moved out here. I'm a casual fan at best, but watching that grand slam clear the fence was unforgettable. Easily my best moment as a baseball fan.

I went out to dinner afterward. Some hardcore Mariners fans were seated next to our table. They were discussing it as a top-five moment in Mariners history. Hard to argue.

Agreed, my comparing Geno to Edgar's 1995 game 4 was me placing it in the top Mariner moments and performances!

For context (many may not care), the 1995 ALDS was the first playoffs in Mariners history after 18 seasons. The team was rumored to be for sale to be moved, and it looked like another lost season with the M's 13 games out in August and holding a .500 record, before going 25-13 to force a one game playoff against the Angels for the division, which they won. They lost the first two in the ALDS, then won the next three elimination games in Seattle, culminating with "The Double" in the 11th inning of game 5 to win it - by far the most iconic play in franchise history to this day with Edgar driving in Junio. And it was the game before when Edgar drove in 7 to get to that game 5 heroics. (Junior was also amazing that series with 5 HRs!)

Last night is right up there, but having lived through 1995 as the team's first real success, that will get the nod for me as it saved the team. Literally, it was after that season that approval for the new stadium was given after it had been rejected - 95% sure the M's would have moved to Tampa if they hadn't built the new ballpark.

Moving to Tampa is a laugh. Having grown up nearby and attended more than a few Rays games, TB fans are among the most fairweather fans in the league.
