Operation Monster Force

One of my little secret favorite things about that movie was the main two were named Sean and Patrick, which is my first and my middle name, heh. One of my friends in school used to quote "Sean? Patrick? I used to think monsters were cool... but now? I think Math is cool. I dig it, man!" at me to no end.

I think you mean this Monster Squad.

No one means that Monster Squad.

And I'm sorry @TENIME but there's more than one Sean Patrick in the world... maybe even more than three.

but no one is more disappointed than me to learn I wasn't Young Indy.

Been slowly opening the new figures and so far haven’t felt there has been a bad figure. The General and Blackwatch agent are simpler than the trooper figures but they nailed what they were going for. Caligari and the aerial trooper go great with the previous sleep walkers. Caligari has such a unique look, even in this line and it just works. The Eraser is the surprise for me. I got the previous exclusive versions but he has a really neat pattern on his uniform that really pops. Having the invisible forearms and eye sockets through the bandages gives him an additionally interesting look. Really fun and stand outs among the trooper figures.

This line really reminds me of the Four Horsemen in a way. There are just a handful of base bodies but they do such a great job coloring and accessorizing them differently that it’s not immediately obvious or boring. The cameo patterns in this wave is particularly impressive. I just wish these were cheaper or had base bodies to buy separately as all the extra looks and accessories could easily build out several more figures. I’m particularly torn on that aerial sleepwalker as those werewolf parts are cool but that helmet is pretty sweet as well.

Honestly thats one thing I'll give to the Action Force line... its inclusion of cheaper blank troop builder bodies that can be used to load out with extra gear. It would be nice if O;MF would do something similar... after a few purchases the extra pieces really start to stack up.

That certainly seemed to be the original goal behind Soldiers of Fortune.

Back in late 2023, FMF pitched some SoF designs on their Facebook Page, saying

"[O]ur upcoming Soldiers of Fortune 1:12 scale line will be a line of figures aimed at the army builder and customizing communities. "

I don't think they ever talked about price, but they did mention accessory packs to be sold separately. So it was at least my assumption they'd be a cheaper, bare-bones option that you could gear up a you wanted.

They were always clear that these were in progress and subject to change, so no shade for them coming out different than I'd assumed. But I do wonder if there was a decision to up the in-pack accessories to make them full figures and shelf the accessory pack options.

Yeah... the Soldiers of fortune are still $37 each and are all packed with one or two extra heads themselves.... so buying them to use with my extra heads/hands from Monster Force just results in a different pile of even nore heads and hands at a full figure price.

Hopefully once more of these are out they can role out a wave of low accessory basic bodies for us to use extra gear to build up squads at a lower cost.

Got a few of these today. The surprise of the bunch, honestly, is the Blackwatch Agent! The promo images made him look kind of thick and blocky, but he's very streamlined, the smoothest joints of any figure in the set so far, and looks weirdly like a young Timothy Olyphant. I almost regret going overboard building a custom Peter Wisdom a few weeks back cos this guy would work relaly well instead (though I think the part-swap Peter does look more like him than the Agent does.) I am not a fan of the agent's demonic head though, it's a little... top-heavy? If it were more demonic I'd probably use it instead of the human head.

The parts reuse really does a lot of heavy lifting in this line but their pant apps make up for it. Eraser really is just a new head on the same old body, but he feels unique and the way the figure uses the negative space of clear plastic parts is very cool. I love that instead of parts swaps you get optional overlays to cover his invisible forearms with. I'm trying to figure out if his arm rig/holster would look better without his vest or if he needs the vest to make the holster work.

Dr. Caligari is one I kinda bought by accident, was in my cart when I ordered something else and wasn't paying attention but decided to leave hte preorder. I wish his legs were less obstructed by his jacket and my particular copy's right arm is going to need a TON of heat to bend at the elbow but he's very weird and cool. I can't wait to put him on display with Dr. Mindbender, who would be absolutely metaphorically turgid at meeting this creature. His kit is cool, too - the briefcase is awesome and the little Rock-inspired cannisters inside are incredible.

I really just don't want to call the Donner Party the Donner Party. The name grosses me out. But the figure is appropriately grotesque. Again, the parts reuse is doing a ton of work here but the overlays make it all come together. he soft goods fit really well. I can't get the dsamed shotgun to rest in his hand appropriately, but I feel like that design of gun has never worked well for any action figure ever, and this just carries on a cursed tradition.

The agent makes me wish I'd gotten the general instead, because I like the base body but I'd get more mileage out of a uniformed general than I will a single agent. And honestly, this'll do me for a while - these are very cool figures but I don't feel the need to army build or get every single variation. There's one or two Crimson Moon figures I may pick up to be stand-ins for weird characters in my Joes headcanon but I think I'm pretty happy with the collection overall.

In Robo's review of the wave, he mentioned that the Blackwatch Agent and the General are using new joints that FMF are going to implementing into all their figures are time goes one, they were just the first to get them.

I like the demon head and that's the way I've got mine displayed for now. If we get some more head options I might change that. There's a few more figures down the line I'm planning to pick up and I might head-swap since the sunglasses head, while well done isn't quite what I want. I'd love a classic Man in Black with the old style hat on this body. I definitely think I'm going to pick up the General soon.

Yeah, I've got the General in my cart right now. I'm pretty solid with what I own so far but he'd work so well with both Marvel as Ross or Joes as any number of characters he's very tempting, especially because the "suit" buck is much better than I expected it to be.

100%. I'm getting more and more excited about their NPC line. So much of what they've shown will fit anywhere on my shelves, or work on their own.
