Magic the Gathering Legends

All four of these have shipped from Pulse. Also found a beat up Pete at Target today, knocked him down to $30 with the sale.

Does anybody’s Spidey’s neck peg actually tilt back and forth or side to side? Mine’s pretty tight in there so I boiled the thing and it improved to rotating, but doesn’t seem to otherwise go anywhere.

Kind of a bummer since the other 3 were really solid figures.

I seemed to get BD Spidey first and posed this question and it seems it is indeed that way with all of this particular figure. I saw an actual interview a fan had with Dwight at NYCC about what figures he felt didn't pan out like they had planned. He basically stated that he allowed engineering folks to tinker with new concepts and methods and try them out on a figure and see how it works. He then mentioned how the face printing technology turned out to be a win for them, while stating some other engineering flops, among them mentioning "the factory is sinking the ball pegs too deep into the torso so some figures utilizing this type of neck peg have little to no articulation at the neck" beyond just rotating the head side to side and slightly up and down. So it sounded like he was referencing what you and I have described.

And I'm sure he's seem how many amputee Spidermen have been popping up on Reddit so hopefully these weird boxy hip pegs don't make a return after this.

Since they were able to resculpt the torso for the battle damage, it makes sense that they might have tinkered with the interior sculpt.

And yeah that ball peg is sunk way too deep to do anything. At least after flipping the figure and the card I doubled my money.

Glad to hear they're aware of and communicating about these sorts of mistakes. It's a little hard for me to figure out what the "new method" being tried here was, though. Do you happen to remember which interview this was?

The new peg set up over the swivel. It's not exclusive to this Spidey, the execution on all of them sucks sour frog ass compared to the companies that nail it.

It's superior to the disc swivel... If you seat it correct.

Feeling kind of good about my last minute cancelation of the BD Spidey figure now. I didn't need it and it sounds like QV is wonky enough to be a hassle

The brief moment that I had mine open before I sold it, I could see the legs already whitening after one test.

Which is why I sold it. I didn't want to risk a broken leg and then it's just Hasbro replacement lottery.

I’m not happy with the busted up Spidey’s neck peg but other than that all the joints on mine were fine after a boil and repositioning. I wish there was more of his face showing, like a busted lens or his mouth. I’m a sucker for the Battle-Damaged releases since the 90’s and it was good he got so much sculpted damage.

Man Wolf’s awesome all-around. His head and neck has great ROM and engineering. The Stargod look is kind of a weird choice, but it’s cool. He does worry me more than all the other figures in this wave given that his weapons ALL have that awful paint that just bonds to anything but the weapon.

Agent Anti-Venom’s nothing new but he’s probably the one that’s going to have the most shelf-time. MJ’a sort of an after-thought but she’ll go fine with Iron Man stuff. It really helps that the cards ended up being worth so much on the aftermarket. Between the Target sale and some Best Buy points I think the only one I paid MSRP for was Man-Wolf.

Yeah...the word is that Spidey and Anti-Venom are retail release and Man-Wolf and Iron MJ are specialty only. Given the price point I expect Wal Mart to have them on clearance before too terribly long. Heck if it was Target they might already be on clearance.

Out of the blue a friend of mine who I didn't even know collected Magic cards texted me and asked if I was planning on getting these figures. He offered me $25 each for the cards but I told him $20 would bring down the cost of the figure to around standard ML cost so we made a deal. I may pick up the Mary Jane now but still think I'm passing on Agent Anti-Venom.

I ended up picking up all four and have the cards for sale at a local comic book store that has a large MTG client base for $17.50 each. No one has been interested yet.

I was going to pass on Battle Damaged Spidey and had cancelled my pre-order for him, but caved and picked him up when I saw him at Target. He's easily my least favorite figure of the four. The only things I really like about it are the unmasked Peter head and the web effects. Man-Wolf is pretty easily the best of the lot, in my opinion. I was happy to replace my old Toy Biz version of that character.
