McFarlane DC Multiverse

AIC did an interview with McFarlane at Toy Fair and asked him about DC. Through a whole lot of rambling, my interpretation is:
  • Super Powers with Entertainment Earth maybe continues past this year?
  • There isn’t much more to show for Multiverse.
  • They have nothing else worked out with WB right now.
Decide for yourself. DC talk starts around the 10:30 mark:

Yeah, I got the sense that the DC Multiverse line in particular is winding down. I’m guessing the everything leaked/rumored and revealed is it, which probably means no new releases after August.

For the BTAS line, I wonder if he’ll squeeze out one more BAF wave after Clock King.

For Super Powers, it’s interesting the exclusive line doesn’t even begin until H2. Seems like it would have to be at least a few waves. Otherwise they would’ve just announced an exclusive wave.

Yeah, I’m confused. I get the feeling that Todd’s comms team hate it when he talks off the cuff/out his @$$. He made a point of telling us over the summer that he has the license until the end of 2026, but he’s folding his tent early anyway. Giving Mattel a “wide birth”?

Why are we still seeing overseas leaks?

The leaks are probably still happening, but does that cover the entire year? Playmates is doing the same thing with TMNT, it doesn’t seem like what they showed covers the entire year but they said that is it. It looks like Mattel’s last DC wave came out in August 2019.

There may be “reasons” that they have to ramp down, but no idea what they are.

Let face facts…Todd’s first instinct is to probably put it up Mattel’s @$$ on his way out. Leaving it all on the table and basically tell Mattel to “top that bitches”. But the truth is that if he ever wants back in to any aspect of the DC license, he may have to play nice with Mattel. Scorched earth and poisoned wells is probably not his best move at this point.

I’m sure the big box retailers have some say or influence here too. They probably want a few months to unload the last wave from one line before stocking the new one.

My guess is that the last Todd product will hit in August/September.

Tomorrow is the last day of Toy Fair. Clearly we’re not going to see anything else new from DC. Supposedly, there’s some sort of post Toy Fair announcement coming per the McFarlane Toy TV show from last month. No clue what that might be. Or when it’s coming. Hopefully this week.

This seems in line with his personality. I personally wouldn't mind if he did it. Some of the Mattel stuff looks alright, but nothing I'd drop everything to run out and get. I imagine the Q-Fig purchase was a means of pivoting and finding his "gaps" by which he can do basically ANY comic character. Whether he uses that as a wedge or stays in his lane depends entirely upon what Todd we're getting that day.

I think the overseas "leaks" are also some of the (character) gaps he's vaguely referring to as most folks probably aren't aware of said leaks or on top of clandestine toy news like most of us.

I’m okay with this line stopping early, and there being a gap in mass-market DC product. These figures are pretty expensive and have been a pain to get. Plus, it’s very feast or famine, with like three waves going up at a time that you have to buy immediately or the sell out.

I just hope to get the ‘89 Joker.

If Todd could do just one more 7" JSA member, who would you want? I'ld want Hawkman.
Definitely someone that hasn’t been made in DC Multiverse or a previous line:

1) Johnny Thunder with Thunderbolt
2) Liberty Belle
3) Mr. Terrific (Terry Sloan)

Kinda bummed McFarlane didn’t get to Starman (Ted) or Atom (Al in second costume).

I would expect the leaked figures to see the light of day. Look how much product dropped in January. Even if McFarlane calls it a day in August/September, we’ve still got 7 or 8 months.

Also, online sales are a much bigger thing than they were when the license last changed hands, so McFarlane may not need commitments for physical shelf space from big box retailers to get the last few waves of product out.

I have been on a bit of a binge with DC Multiverse the last couple of weeks. I have picked up PP Green Lantern and Flash(Hal and Barry) and today took advantage of Gamestop's Double Pro days B1G1 on marked down figures by buying Captain Boomerang and movie Metamorpho for only $17.50 total. I'll fudge Rex into my the comic figures since I don't have any movie figures. I have always loved Metamorpho since I was a kid and the DC Comics story album from Power Records with Rex, Flash, Plastic Man and I think Aquaman on it. Still hear Rex's theme song....Meta-morph-o.......META-MORPH-O! Lol.

It was a bit disappointing to not see new Multiverse at NYTF, but it wasn't entirely unexpected. Most of this stuff is planned out far in advance, so we're going to get the things that were planned in 2025 and that should just about do it. I think I'm mostly done with Multiverse now, I had a bunch of stuff in my BBTS pile of loot that I just canceled yesterday because I realized I just didn't really need it, things I had purchased because they were new and shiny. Of all the figures that have come out in the last 90 days or so, the only ones I kept were Zatanna, Ice, and Professor Pyg.

If we get Black Canary and any other long-wanted characters, I'll probably jump in on them, but as of right now I think I'm all good and actually looking to pare my collection down. I'll get the Superman Returns figure (going to need a custom head, though), and I doubt we'll see a Panther suit Kilmer but I'd jump on that if we got one.

I have very little interest in the Mattel stuff unless they bring out something that absolutely knocks our dicks in the dirt. I've had a blast with McFarlane and I have most of the things that I personally could want. I'm pretty fortunate that I don't need a lot of the unfinished teams that people have been waiting on, I like a lot of those characters but I don't really need them. If Mattel jumps back down to around 6 inches, I just won't need to go there. I think it's about time to wrap things up on my end and move on to other things I'm currently hyper-focused on. 3rd parties are absolutely killing it, creating some of the most impressive stuff I've ever seen, and Hot Toys is a big one for me too.

Stargirl, as I mentioned. Libertry Belle and a non-crummy Hourman as second and third.

I mean i could list another 10 but thats the top ones.
I'm really surprised Todd didn't do Stargirl or S.T.R.I.P.E. in this line. When it first started I thought they were a shoe-in, especially S.T.R.I.P.E.! Big freakin' robot just seems like Todd's wheelhouse.
