Wasted slots & flat-out fails

I’d buy that.

It just occurred to me that Hasbro could also give us a battle damaged Wolverine on the Gamerverse Body. But unlike the Love Triangle Wolverine, this time go all out and actually sculpt the torn away pieces of his costume all over his body. But as an added bonus, not only should he be in the tiger stripe costume again, but it should be the exact same color palate as the standard Gamerverse Wolverine from the silver samurai 2-pack. That way we can make those battle damage sections look transitional by mixing and matching parts between the two Wolverine figures

I assumed that rumored comic US Agent is just a repainted Gamerverse Cap. He should be a bit bigger than Cap and that scales to that in comparison to all the anniversary Caps
That's actually one of my choices for the Cap wish list here. Just repaint that figure in U.S.Agent colors, and give us both unmasked Steve Rogers and John Walker head sculpts in it so it can be both the Captain and/or The Agent.

He’ll need new legs though. Or at the very least some taller boots also all things being fair, I would prefer it if Hasbro started with a Captain America figure if they were going to use this release as an excuse to experiment with new articulation because we’ve all been through this song and dance before

I'm expecting the Maximum Security Judge Dredd-like helmeted look, but this would be so much easier for Hasbro and probably much better received. That leak originally showed up in a Iron Man retro card wave rumor, I believe. I think that I saw it first from Dave at Displaying Model Behavior.

These "don't deserve to be Marvel Legends" arguments are so silly. We've been hearing them since Toy Biz made X-23, and they're just as tired as they were then.

If you don't want a figure, then don't buy it. But complaining about its existence feels so self-centered. As Damien said, every character out there is someone's favorite. Or at least has an audience.

I love when characters like Crystar/Warbow are made in the line. The random pulls. It makes the line and reveals interesting. Crystar was a Marvel property, so it's fair game. And the ML guys not only thought it was an interesting figure, they also probably thought of reuse for the body. Warbow is a companion piece to Crystar but is also a way to reuse Crystar's mold. Also maybe Martinex and an eventual Iceman can use that angular body. But I also think the ML team is just having fun. They're people too with different tastes and get inspired by a variety of sources. They're also artists, and these figures are essentially artistic takes on characters from a different medium. Not every character is going to appeal to everyone, and that's ok.

Cottonmouth’s boring head instead of one that displays his enlarged mouth powers

Siryn with no screaming likeness
These types of things are an issue. I like someone like Cottonmouth being in the line. But showcase his power with an open-mouth, elongated jaw head. Why not show off what makes him unique? While I don't want figures to only have a screaming head, an open-mouth head for Cottonmouth makes a whole lot more sense than a smiling one. Siryn as well. Her power are based on her screaming, so give her a screaming head. I also want to add one complaint...Skurge the Executioner not having a gripping left hand for 2-handed axe-wielding. I didn't like it when Terrax had that limitation, and I don't like Skurge having the same issue.

Pink Iron Man doens't take away from anything else in the line. It's a standalone figure. A way to recoup costs. Obviously, these holiday-themed figures work for Hasbro, or they wouldn't keep making them across their lines. Someone is buying them. If you don't like them, don't buy them. But don't bemoan their existence.

I'm personally all about the never before made characters, no matter how deep the cut is.

If I had my way I'd only ever buy one figure and exactly only one figure ever of any given character. It's the constant repeats of characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine and Cap that drive me absolutely crazy. I couldn't care less about alternate costumes, artist specific renditions or minor upgrades to what came before.

I've probably spent hundreds of $$$ on Spider-Man alone over the last 25 years and I still only display one version and only one version - so that's one expensive figure when you look at it that way. However, I also know these characters sell - so they keep the line alive and allow me to get my occasional obscure character that I actually want from time to time. But for example, knowing that I'm going to have to buy yet another Spider-Man soon to get the Luna Snow figure I want grinds my gears.

Being candid, a vast majority of the wishlists and polls here are "wasted slots" to me.

But it's fine.

See Damien's opener above.
Hah, same - including my own!

When I think of "fails" to me it's a term best reserved for a character that is likely to be one and done. ROM is an example of the opposite - they had one shot to get it right and nailed it. Some aren't so lucky.

I'll keep it current as I just picked this one up today - Cardiac. Not a bad figure. I basically bought it because I think he looks fun. Very 90s. We all expect him to be one and done so it's a bummer that so many fans are dissatisfied with the face. And even though I have no attachment to this character, I agree that it should look like the artwork. I'm more irritated at the lack of waist articulation. They tooled a brand new torso for this guy but didn't give him any waist articulation? I saw some speculate that they didn't want to break up the sculpt, but they didn't mind doing that with the diaphragm joint so I'm not buying it. He also has these teeny little wrists which just look weird. Again, not terrible, but just a little more love would have made him a home run and no one would be asking for another Cardiac again.

Most of my issues are with questionable portraits.

Siryn - they tooled both but chose the wrong one to release - and she's still available.

Outback Rogue getting a JSC head instead of an accurate 80s look. Same with Outback Storm.

Vertigo getting a reused head still annoys me. I fixed mine by swapping with Viper's hair but re-used heads really bugs me. The least Hasbro can do is tool up a correct head for every release - otherwise it's a glorified custom that I can do.

Morlun is a great call - I wanted that character but he's a terrible figure. Can't stand, too short - just not right.

It's interesting that most figures people consider fails sell poorly. I gotta take a deeper look to find more that bother me - I know they are there but I'm not. :)

So a quick Google search tells me that Morlun is supposed to stand 6'2". Is the figure really too short? I know his head sits a little low on his neck, but I never really thought the figure was too short compared to what I remember of him in the books. I always thought he was just a regular humanoid height.

I feel "slots" are all relative in that a wave can be four or five or six or however many figures.

I remember when GI Joe did their 25th anniversary figures 20 years ago, they put Mat Trakker in a wave. Everyone bemoaned it as a "wasted slot". Well, one of the previous waves only had 3 new figures. So what if they excluded Trakker all together and just made it a wave of 4 instead of 5? Would people have been happier? That's how I look at it.

"Flat out fails"? How about Cannonball. This one transcended laziness. This one was a "let's see how little we can give them and still get their money" release. It was half a figure, guys.

Mandarin.
Yes, in line with the story arc they’re pulled from but what a let down.

Void BaF Namor.
Of all the other Namor looks this was the worst to take. Updated trunks or black suit.
That Namor was so bad it ended up at Ollies. The ONLY one from that wave.
