G.I. Joe Classified Series: The Chatty Pointless Thread & Performance Art

arms. The problem with them being skin tone is that the elbows show it's green plastic.
Yep! That’s it!
I spent some time looking at him after this came up, and I *totally* see the “it’s painted on camo on bare skin” thing BUT what kills the illusion for me is that it’s green plastic, so my head automatically reads it as the other colors are “on top” of green sleeves. Never read the Range-Viper arms as bare, either, especially due to the vintage figure.

Oh yeah, I want them to make that body - I just don't care if they make it a blue one because I won't buy that.

I never liked the Python Patrol colorway, but I think it looks really good as an alternate colorway for an officer. I almost bought the long-sleeve Viper in the PP scheme for that reason but I just... can't make myself love that old figure as much as I want to. So I'm hoping they do a Python scheme on the Retro Viper.
Same here. PP has always been my favorite, and the sleeves-up Viper/Tele-Viper is the way to go. I'd also love a Sonic Fighters Viper. And a PP Tele Viper Officer.

So my only Joes Black Friday pickup arrived today and it wasn't even a collecting buy - my V1 Spirit's hips have always been a bit wonky, and BBTS had Spirit marked down to like 11 bucks, so I picked up a spare to BOIL THE LIVING FUCK OUT OF and ANOINT WITH THE HOLY SHOCK OIL figuring if I destroy an 11 dollar backup copy of him I won't be mad at myself if he like, crumbles to dust afterward.

Jury's still out if it worked or not, but he SEEMS, with the above brutalization of plastic, to be working better. I just hate having a figure that doesn't want to move or pose correctly.

A key reason I got rid of all my original recipe Vipers. Those hips were a fuckin' nightmare. Hearing about Spirit having similar issues all over the place is also why I never bought a Spirit figure despite the DEEP discounts. Maybe they'll find a way to redo him one of these days with newer parts.

As much as I hate getting taken to the cleaners twice for figures, I'd buy a Retro carded Spirit with the new parts in a fucking HEARTBEAT. Hell, by the time he came out in the Marauders two-pack they'd fixed the issue, so he'd probably be fine now.

Those fucking Vipers almost made me quit the line. I'm glad they got it sorted out but man, it was like 50/50 chance you'd get a dud Viper for a while.

(That being said, if i can get these hips to work well on him, V1 Spirit is a beautiful rendition. Head sculpt is great, the hand-beaten blade on knife, the two ways to have Freedom land on him, just great stuff if not for those fuckin' hips)

I forgot that Marauders Spirit was corrected. So yeah.... there's gotta be a way they can do a Retro of him. I'd get that for -sure-.

Was it even 50/50? I had four Vipers and they were all fucked.

So, I got in Slice and Dice, Breaker, and Short Fuze and Steeler. As per usual, they are all great. They look fantastic and have all sorts of fun accessories. I'm still waiting on Dial Tone and Monkeywrench though. Maybe they'll get here tomorrow.

Then today, now that I have all my Christmas shopping done and know where I stand with money, I went ahead and grabbed some other things I haven't picked up yet. Sci Fi (which I am so excited about) Mainframe, Wet Suit, Desert Scorpion, Budo, and the Sgt. Slaughter/Mercer 2 Pack.

So, I think I'm all caught back up. Except for the AWE Striker. I haven't pulled the trigger on one of those yet.

So I finally had a chance to give my brother the V4 Snake Eyes I bought him. I asked if he'd raided the old Joes box at our parents' house and he's like 'yeah, but they're a wreck. {My son] loves them though, he's so into action figures." And as I pulled SE out of my bag to hand it to him, this man's eyes got ten times bigger and was like HOLY SHIT THAT WAS MYYYYY SNAKE EYES! And then he IMMEDIATELY tries to find a way to hide it from his own kids so he can actually enjoy it. Truly the best gift I've given all year and it was just a random "hey, my bro would love this guy" 25 dollar purchase. Made my heart grow three sizes too big.

But we also got to talking about how his son LOVES action figures but is ashamed cos his friends are outgrowing them (he's only 10 but kids really don't do figures like we did, right?) and I'm like dude, I got him. He will have a secret stash of whatever line he likes until he outgrows them. We gotta let him keep that joy.

Anyway. 10/10 recommend giving someone in your life who doesn't know action figures are now ridiculously cool for adults a character they loved as a kid. Fuckin' highlight of my year.

I'm being generious at 50/50. I think I FIXED half of them with shock oil and heat. Miserable bsstards, those Vipers. Though by way of cheap comedy, this summer in Boston it was so fucking hot they all worked great all summer when I was posing them!

Decided I'm glad I picked up this spare Spirit - I"ll have my a little stuck, but pristine" one, and my "I've seen fire, I've seen rain" one that lives on my desk because he's lubed up for posing. Total PITA but worth the ten bucks to me cos he's a top three favorite character.

That is a HAUL. Every one of those figures is a banger. (I'm still torn on the AWE Striker - Crank Case is an old favorite, and the vehicle is great, but the fact that the driver is so hard to get behind the wheel has sullied the thing for me. Most other characters fit okay but Crank Case is a struggle).

I love that Slaughter and Mercer set.
Mercer is basically never going to leave my desk. I love that figure so much. Though I gave him Sarge's gun and knife cos it's funny.

I have several different bad guys but was really having trouble having some of the characters from the first few years sharing space with characters like Darklon or some of the more colorful characters. The aesthetic for Cobra etc really shifted over the years, but I finally decided I have to have two organizations: Cobra and Coil; Cobra Commander and his ilk, then Serpentor and his cronies.* So the 'emperor' gets all the post-86 weirdos and CC keeps all the 82-85 characters, along with anyone who fits in with the dark blues etc. I'd say Energon Chameleon and Mercer count there, as well as any of the cartoon ladies (Leila, Deming, the Naval Officer, even though she was in Serpentor's season).

*Assuming they do another Serpentor.
