I have had the exact same thought. And do you want this to be so realistic, or maintain the idea of everyone on the Joe team being the best of the best, not just in specialty but morally? It's a really big question, but yeah... Slaughter is probably the best choice for it.

I'd like to think every Joe stays on the good side, but that's because it's all fantasy. I have a hard enough time dealing with the real life shit every day. I don't need it in my geekdom.

Right, I guess that's what I was getting at, how fantastic do you wanna get and how close to reality? And so far, I think Doc has been holding the line really well. We get it for sure, and there are elements that can get real close, but ultimately what's exciting isn't how much we can get Cobra to reflect the modern administration, but how the Joe team, and others, can defeat that.

Slaughter maybe? And that's only because it's hard to separate the character from the real life Magat who portrays him. Joe Slaughter is likely all in on the resistance, but there is precedence with the character switching sides (in other media, granted).

Glad you're digging these! They're way too much fun to write, honestly, really becoming my vacation from reality when I can write a few.

I think about who might side with Cobra A LOT. I think it'd be a very small number because I always see the Joes as the guys who don't tow the line and that's how they end up there, they're not only the best at their jobs but they're stubborn AF about doing the right thing. I can't think of anyone as previously written by Larry and all who'd turn fascist without being a HUGE disappointment to us as readers. That being said, using Slaughter for that role in our little alternate timeline here kinda words cos so many of us had our hearts broken by him as kids turning against us in such a cartoonish manner. He's already done it to us once, why not here?

Yeah he really feels like the most obvious, and that would probably be a blow for Mercer more than any of us even.
 
It's funny, I could see someone suggesting Mercer as a traitor but he was one of my first writeups because he's the guy who got out of the cult. "F*ck those guys all day and twice on Sunday" attitude from him.

I have a personal grudge against clutch cos he's canonically a sexist pig to Cover Girl, but even Clutch would be like "listen, I'm a pig, I'm not a FASCIST."

Definitely. Initially, he might make sense because he was a Viper but to me that makes it even worse if he goes back. Like when an addict backslides. But having him passionately be anti Cobra and NEVER going back is more inspiring. He is the Joe's version of Hugo Stiglitz from Inglourious Basterds.

Right. He's an asshole but not a FUCKING asshole. Women are stupid, but Cobra is stupider!
 
Actually if I'm being fair as a writer, Clutch is, in fact, allowed to realize he's being a pig and get really active in advocating for women's rights when he's older. "Look I was a p**hound in my 20s but dude life is so much better when chicks LIKE you"

Heh, not to judge him too harshly but still feels like maybe he's doing a good thing for a not great reason.
