Ghostbusters General Thread

Curious to see if they hold to the free shipping vow on this one. My guess is it's out the windows now that the main guys are offered.

As far as them almost certainly re-releasing other "exclusive" ghosts goes, I do remember in the stream they did after Ray was solicited that Alex said he's sculpted a stomach for Ghash that had all the little ghosts coming out of his body instead of worming into it, so I could definitely see them re-releasing him with that as the alt look.

Making them glow-in-the-dark seems to be the easiest change up. I'm not really bothered about Sam since it's a show-accurate color variant. I'm deciding if I want to pick it up though. I don't really NEED the extras it has.

I missed out on the Winston and Sandman set, so I guess it'll be nice if they do re-release Sandman. Either it knocks the 2-pack costs down on ebay or I just settle for the variant.

I prefer the newer Sam variant, the original version with the pupils and the teeth I find legitimately unsettling. I wonder how much more creepy the Boogeyman will be when he's rereleased. The alternate "teeth" face on this newer variant doesn't bother me but for some reason the other version was just too creepy for me personally.

I finally opened up Venkman this weekend. He was more or less what I expected, but not entirely what I hoped he would be. I do understand the comments about WTF is up with the box. For those that got the two pack - the single pack's box is almost like a gag. The tray with the figure only takes up a tiny layer at the top, then there is massive empty plastic tray space below him, you could fit a pair of shoes in there. It's kind of confusing, like they were supposed to pack the large ghost behind him. But it becomes kind of funny when you empty the box and see how few things are in it. I don't understand the logic here, unless it's supposed to conform with their 1/6 box sizes, or if they're hoping a big box will make people feel better about paying $110 for these.

Venkman himself is everything everyone said he was. Great paint and sculpt, but boring figure. He looks awkward sitting down, and would look very toy-like and stiff sitting in an Ecto-1. The engineering and articulation really leave a lot be desired, and some extra hands reaaaalllyy could have done some extra lifting. I'm a little annoyed that the gloved hands don't have a few mm of extra plastic on the peg to account for the cuff of the glove that sits on the wrist stump. It would allow you to use the ball jointed wrists a lot better when holding the wand. Again, extra hands that are sculpted to grip the handle of the wand, instead of generic grippies, would help as well.

I don't like being a negative Nancy all the time so I'll stop my griping about the line soon. This is my first Mondo figure and I wish I was as excited for it as when the figures were initially announced. I was hoping that the figure would sing once I had him actually in hand, but he is what he is.

Ultimately, I might bail on the line, cancel my other PO's and put him and the Egon 2-pack up on eBay when they come in. I just don't think they have the wow factor for the price, and there are so many great things out there that are getting increasingly more expensive. We'll see if he grows on me after a little bit. An announcement for a head/hand pack would keep me in, but I feel that it's unlikely that'll happen.

Unfortunately, I think that's exactly what's going on. The impression I got from some of the interviews where they talked about the price was that when they found out they had to be priced at a hundred bucks they just put extra money into what they were planning on releasing as opposed to putting it into stuff like more accessories. They got better quality paints, plastics, that wire they use for the proton pack is apparently not super cheap, and probably a big box that looks like a ghost trap. I do think Mondo is a company that perceives the packaging and delivery of the product as a big part of their brand when I think the vast majority of collectors just care about what's inside. I think Peter is a good figure for what they're going for, but there's no way he's a $100 figure. If this wasn't the first, really nice, Real Ghostbusters toy line ever (I don't and never did like the Diamond figures) I don't think it would sell. I'll be very surprised if Janine sells as well as the boys to keep it going.

I usually keep the packaging for my high end figures. I'm actually considering recycling the box for Peter because it's so obnoxiously and unnecessarily huge. It really put me off. I love the figure. But the space in that package is egregious.

I’m I the same boat. I’m not going to have room to store four or more of these humongous boxes.

I hate that I've gotten into the habit of keeping those boxes. I have a lot more imports and high end figures than I ever thought I'd cave on. But I've definitely repacked some of the pieces I no longer want and feel much better about possible reselling. These RGB boxes will take up so much space. And I doubt I'll ever resell them. I think these might be the kind of figures people will regret passing on once the full team is released.

After @NORM posts, I had to look. OMG, this is hilarious, but not in a good way. What were they thinking?

It's looney toons. I could understand if the package was also meant to house the exclusive large ghost, but those got entirely different packaging. I don't usually rant about things, but this situation is worthy.

A little while back I made the decision to compromise on all the boxes I had in storage in my garage. I chucked away the plastic bubble, then collapsed the boxes so they would pack flat. So I have one plastic box filled with boxes now. If i want to resell, I can pop the box back up, tape it, and at least pose the figure in front of the box for a more professional looking listing. It's not the same as having it in box, but I also feel it's not the same as having it completely loose. So it's a compromise, but saves a huge amount of space.

I don’t think I can discard the plastic tray though. That’s what’s taking up all the room, I know. But I find it the best way to keep all accessories intact. But bravo to you for freeing up space!
